 Boer Goat

The Boer goat was developed in South Africa. "Boer" means farmer. The name derived from the Dutch word. They are large framed animals. The most striking difference between a Boer goat and any other type of goat is the size. They commonly have white bodies and distinctive brown head. They possess long, pendulous ears. They were selected for meat rather than milk production. The Boer goat has a fast growth rate an excellent carcass qualities. It is one of the most popular breeds of meat goat in the world. It's meat  is low fat, good tasting and digest more easily. Thus, suitable for people with digestive problems. 

Boer goats have a high resistance to disease and adapt well to hot and dry climate. They are easy to raise, have mild temperaments, affectionate, require no milking, no special care, no shearing, and no fancy fences. The were developed to clear land that was difficult to be cleared by humans. They are out grazing in the heat of the day and also when the snow is blowing across the pasture. They will graze and thrive on ground that will not support dairy goats without supplementation. A mature Boer weights between 110 - 135 kg.
